Bienvenidos! Welcome! Here you will find information about my trip to Bolivia!

(Last Updated July 1, 2003))

Here we can see the temperature difference between La Paz and Edmonton:

What will I be doing there?

I will be working with Unidad Operativa Zonal Yanapanaku - FONCRESOL, a partner organization of Canadian Crossroads International, as a Database and Network Trainer and Programmer. This organization's goal is to "promote the social, economic and financial feasibility of disadvantaged social sectors by facilitating a credit system for programs oriented towards a community development model that combines diagnosis, research, technical assistance and credit".

Why do I want to go?

There are many reasons why I am going. Firstly, I have a strong desire to explore the world. Secondly, when I volunteered at a mission in Mexico last year, I felt the desire to help out in another country again, using the skills I've learned through Computer Engineering. I also felt that helping to train people in another country is the best way to help them reduce the poverty that is so sad. This opportunity is ideal in both those regards because I am helping a Bolivian organization in what they have identified as a big need for them - training and solutions developed on the computer. Through my experience and knowledge, I will be able to help them in a lasting way. Lastly, I present the greatest reason and the driving factor giving me strength to do this: Is that I sense God's calling on my life to do this. It has been exciting and even strange at times, but I just know that this is what God wants me to do.

What is Bolivia like, and where is it?

Bolivia is in South America, and Potosi (where I'll be working) is the highest city in the World!

In Bolivia, the language is Spanish, and that is the language I will be using at work. Given that the only Spanish word on this site so far is Bienvenidos, I had better learn more fast!!! Maybe I'll put a section up on Spanish later on...
Most of the information I've gotten on Bolivia comes from This World Factbook Site.

Have another question?

I'm working on a suggestion box, but in the meantime, you can try e-mailing me.
